Trundle Boldoak likes his quiet life in the peaceful – some might say boring – little backwater island of Shiverstones. In the evenings his job is to light all the lamps of Port Shiverstones, and in the morning he snuffs them all out again. And in-between, he passes the time with his respectable neighbours, polishes the lass in the lamps and reads books about far lands and tremendous adventures.
His sleepy life is brought rudely awake when a strange and probably crazy Roamany girl named Esmeralda Lightfoot comes crashing in through his front door one evening. And one he allows Esmeralda over his threshold, things for Trundle are never the same again.
Esmeralda tells him that she has read a prophecy in the Ancient Badger Blocks of the Roamany people. The Blocks have told her that he is the one person in the whole of Sundered Lands who can – and must – help her to find the Six Crowns of the Badger Lords of Old, that have been scattered and hidden for thousands of years.
Before Trundle can gather his wits or finish his cabbage tea, Esmeralda whisks him off as a stowaway aboard a Windship bound for strange and distant lands. And as if that wasn’t unsettling enough for Trundle, he also learns that they have bloodthirsty and ferocious pirates on their trail! Pirates led by Captain Grizzletusk, an evil hog so foul and fearsome that he will stop at nothing to get his trotters on the Six Crowns and use their powers for his own nefarious purposes!
Together, the two animals must brave the dangers of being thrown off a windship in full sail; they must enter the warren of streets that make up the dreadful town of Rathanger and they must venture into the deep and dreadful mines of Drune, where shackled slaves are forced to work night and day for their dreadful overlords!
Can Trundle and Esmeralda hope to find the first crown – the Crown of Crystal – when the odds are stacked so heavily against them.
Only by reading the first book of The Six Crowns series can you find out.
Trundle’s Quest. The adventure has only just begun!
